A short rant, I daresay

Something vexes me, and has since I earnestly began perusing the dark corridors of DA. Why do some people not appreciate a fave without a comment on their work? I believe the act is referred to as "fave and run." Personally, I fave and run all the time. I have no problem when people do it to me. Why do others?

Although I myself love comments of all kinds, I prefer to reserve giving my comments (aside from thank-you's for faves, regardless of accompanying comment) for something meaningful, when something strikes me particularly hard for good or bad and I simply cannot control myself. I usually will not say anything if all I have to say is "great job" or "wonderful" or "your artwork sucks" or even the dreaded "lol." Occasionally I will do this, especially if the artist is a newbie to the DA and I'm in a mood to encourage and add to their stats; mostly, however, leaving such messages, especially on highly-viewed pages, is a waste of my time, the artist looking for constructive criticism's time, and the comment reader's time. We know your artwork is good. Otherwise I wouldn't be wanting to fave it and you wouldn't have so many views.

"Do not fave unless you comment." You've got to be freaking kidding me. A fave is a compliment. And an artist should be grateful that someone faves their work, regardless of whether or not they comment, because that means the faver enjoyed the favee's artwork enough to want to look at it again. I refuse to fave anyone's work who require's a comment to go with it, because I don't enjoy people putting rules on my handing out of compliments. Take the goddamn compliment, and let me sneak away in peace. Appreciate that I can earnestly enjoy your work without giving lipservice I would rather not.

The reverse is also true. Comment without faving, if you have something to say. So, I close with this: fave and runs, fave and comments, comments, and constructive criticisms are welcomed, appreciated, and anticipated.

Now, let the flaming of this rant begin.

No, I actually agree with you on here.
When I'm in a search for new picks to fav, I generally never comment. Sometimes I'll comment and never fave as well. I do that with friends and such, I love their work, but I don't need to fav everything they do, or even comment on it all.

The people who are already spectacular I'm sure appreciate the comments, but they don't exactly need 100 "wow"s. Like you said, if it's a new person or someone who wants critiquing, then that's when a comment is pretty important.

I do give thankyous to whoever favs my stuff, regardless of if they commented (most of them don't)

And I also make sure to put the title of the picture in the thankyou, cause if they're anything like me, they'll fav about five pics at a time and forget who drew what.

True story. It just kinda bugs me that people are so picky about the method, for lack of a better word, of how people choose to appreciate their work. Mostly, I'm just happy people take the time to look at one of my drawings (or read my journals, for that matter. ^_^).

Shout it loud and proud from the rooftops, "I fave and run!"

If you find yourself struggling with lonliness, remember you aren't alone. And yet you are alone. So very alone.

I think faves are far more useful than comments half the time; I spend ages browsing other people's favorites - it's how I find most of the art I like, and being faved is more likely to get your art seen than loads of "wow"s. Not that comments aren't nice, but it's hard to know what to say about something without sounding a bit lame. :sun:

Haha, that's fine, and thanks. Also, I visited your page and read your journals back a ways....I'm sorry about your grandpa. I'll keep him in my prayers, and I hope everything is going well!

Hey, this makes sense, I mean, what would the average Joe want more, a random comment-or a favorite that says "Hey I kinda admire your work and I want it be in my gallery favs" I get random favs all the time, and I jump for joy.

...and I get comments that go 'wow' and that's all folks. Take what you get and give nothing back! I won't comment unless there's somethng there that just takes my breath. People shouldn't be so nit-picky.
